Crowdfunding Pick of the Week: Magnetic Clasps Make Wearing Jewelry a Snap

By Linzy Novotny

A fashion and jewelry designer has perfected a way to easily transition a look from day to evening with interchangeable necklaces.

Jessie Davis of Jersey City, N.J., began making jewelry with lobster clasps as Christmas gifts for family and friends. As demand for the jewelry grew, she began to experiment with different clasps. After trial and error, Davis found that magnetic clasps made getting ready swift and easy as it contributes to “effortless beauty.”

Now, Davis is asking for funding through Kickstarter to fund the production of her two lines of jewelry for her business, Swan Box.

“I created Swan Box a year ago to introduce a new kind of jewelry—jewelry that takes no effort to put on and take off,” Davis said. “After many nights and samples, I finally perfected the weight of the beads and metal to the strength of the clasp, as well as the high quality materials to the design.”

This is the interchangeable necklace and bracelet—the necklace can be worn four different ways. This jewelry line is made with onyx and crystals.

The interchangeable line of jewelry is made with onyx and crystals. A single necklace can transition between four looks, or two bracelets can be linked together to create a necklace, according to the project’s Kickstarter video. The necklaces can be of varying lengths and create looks that are formal or casual. Because the clasps are magnetic, the pieces easily pull apart and new pieces can be connected.

The “Gold Rush” line of jewelry is gold-plated silver and tiger eye stones. This line does not come with the four-in-one necklace, but a necklace and bracelet are available. The Chris Necklace can be doubled up or worn as a single strand. One of the two styles of bracelets is made with tiger eye stones and a pair of earrings is made with the stones as well. Both lines of jewelry have matching earrings.

“All jewelry [is] carefully handcrafted by me,” according to Davis on Kickstarter. “I have been perfecting the techniques and tools for a year and I confidently guarantee the quality of the craftsmanship and materials used in my products.”

For pledging at least $35, backers will receive one interchangeable collection with crystal drop earrings, according to Kickstarter. For pledging $50, backers will receive the collection, but with bracelets of two different sizes. For $380, backers will receive the entire interchangeable collection—two pairs of earrings, one bracelet and one interchangeable necklace.

Backers will receive “Gold Rush” earrings for pledging $40, $50 or $100. The tiger eye stone bracelet is available when pledging at least $95 and the LG SQ Bracelet for $100. Backers will receive the entire collection when pledging $385, including the Chris Necklace, two pairs of earrings and two bracelets.

The Swan Box project will only be funded if at least $5,000 is pledged by Jan. 27.
