Need to write a summary of To Kill a Mockingbird that is due tomorrow and wish, “There’s an app for that.” Now there is! Foxlink Projects has designed an application for Android and iOS called Summary. True to its name, the app provides a summary of books, movies, television shows, videogames and more. Summary was designed so a person can retain as much information as possible in a short amount of time. The summaries will be provided “through keywords, footnotes and quotes from the subject matter,” as the Kickstarter page explains.
This free Summary application is for people who would like to have time to watch and read all the latest shows and books, but realistically don’t have the time or energy to do so. There comes a time in one’s life when responsibilities outweigh fun activities. We have all experienced those times coming home, just wanting to crash on the couch and watch endless hours of television, but our responsible side reminds us that we have a report to write for tomorrow’s meeting or household chores to attend to. One must pick their battles wisely.
The Internet is always ready and willing to fill you in on the latest gossip from that popular television show critics have been raving about. The downside to the Internet, though, is that it also feeds into procrastination. Once a person starts reading one thing, various suggestions and links can lead them astray.
The Summary App Solution
The people leading Foxlink Projects are Doug Miller and Eldar Basic, alongside Katie Martin. But there is also a team of writers, tech supporters, analysts and many more.
Miller and Basic explain Summary on the project’s Kickstarter page. “How often have you needed to catch up on something, but only had a few minutes to do so? Isn’t it annoying to have to search for different information, through multiple websites? We struggle with this every day, and that’s why we decided to make a change! No more hunting for information, no more web diving, we’ve had enough! We have created an app designed to catch you up on anything in just minutes. We want to give you a hub for summaries about everything, from TV shows, books, movies and much, much more! See that it is possible to learn about a subject completely in minutes. Need to catch up on Game of Thrones before the new season? Let us help.”
According to the information Miller and Basic put on Kickstarter, one obstacle people face when gleaning the Internet for information is the amount of words humans read versus the actual amount of info our brains retain. “The average human being reads at around 120 – 200 WPM (words per minute), but only retains about 60 – 65 percent of what they’ve read.”
In light of this, the team decided to conduct a small survey to see if potential Summary users would retain all of the information from the succinct summaries provided. They took a group of men and women, had them read the summaries and gave them a short quiz to see how much information they retained. They found out that 100 percent of the readers were able to retain 95 percent of the information they had just read. Summary will allow you to be in the know of every popular television show you do not have enough time to watch because of other commitments. Whether you need a summary of Macbeth or a summary of Hamlet, you no longer have to worry about being the ignorant one when talking about TV or books with friends.
Summary App Kickstarter Fundraising Goal
The creators of Summary are seeking to raise $15,000 by March 20, 2015. “With your donation you can help us bring Summary to your iPhone, Android or Windows phone, in all languages.” Once they have gathered enough funds, they will launch the Summary app on the Apple app store during the summer of 2015. They plan to launch with more than one thousand summaries. The long-term plan for Summary is to showcase thousands of summaries pertaining to every subject.
By donating just $1, Miller and Basic will e-mail you the Summary app download code once it goes live. Pledges of $50 or more will receive “the exclusive Summary wallpaper, your name on the ‘Eternal Gratitude’ wall, and a call from us on launch day! That’s right, we’ll either call, Skype, or text you a very heartfelt thank you when you make Summary happen! Also, Doug [Miller] rides bikes and will ride 1 mile for every $50.00. Seriously. Doug will ride a mile and map it.”
