For those of us lucky enough to spend part of our childhood in a tree house, the sensation of being safely ensconced in a swaying tree is hard to find in an adult-sized portion. Thankfully, now there’s the eco-PERCH tree house for the hands-on arborealist in you.
How Green is the eco-PERCH?
Crafted by Blue Forest, a UK architectural firm that specializes in building sustainable, deluxe tree houses, the eco-PERCH is built of organic materials. With Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved timber siding and cedar roof shingles for its exterior and real wood flooring, low-voltage LED lighting and double-glazed windows in its interior, the space reflects a natural, eco-friendly design.
The sleek tree house uses an easy to assemble modular construction. It is delivered, assembled and commissioned in approximately five days. With sufficient site preparation beforehand, its small 19.7 x 26 x 9.8 feet construction is intended to minimally impact the landscape.
“The eco-PERCH design is flexible and can be adapted to suit your site where existing infrastructure is already in place,” Blue Forest’s website says. “With options to assemble your building on the ground or in the treetops, there are infinite possibilities for creating accommodation with a difference.”
If buyers wish to take the home completely off the beaten path, however, Blue Forest offers a version of the eco-PERCH that gets power from solar energy, water from a rain harvesting system, and a methanol fuel cell. Complete with a composting toilet, this house option allows guests to hide away in the quietness of remote locations and drop their environmental impact to zil, all the while still enjoying all amenities.
Sleeping four, the prefabricated eco-PERCH offers a complete getaway package for travelers with its full kitchen and bathroom. Each unit is also installed with a wood burning stove and a wall-mounted flat screen television with a DVD player to ensure optimum comfort and enjoyment for guests.
Primarily marketed towards business owners and entrepreneurs looking to invest in real estate property, the eco-PERCH is said to have a 15-year minimum lifespan; depending on specifications, it is available for purchase for approximately $78,800 to $94,600. Our British readers should be delighted to know the building also complies with UK regulations, making it a suitable alternative to poor-quality, permanent caravan accommodations.
When and Where to Get Your eco-PERCH
Blue Forest launched the eco-PERCH at Grand Designs Live, a consumer-show exhibition for self-build, design, interior and innovation projects. The event took place at London’s ExCel convention center this spring from May 5-13. For more information, check out BlueForest.com.
